Producers
Houses, cooperatives and growers that make sparkling wine, described with facts only: founding dates, seat, status, owner group, vineyard area and the wines they make, taken from the producers' official sites and official records. The library gives no ratings, scores or prices. For Champagne, a producer's status follows the code on its label (NM for a house, CM for a cooperative, RM for a grower); see label codes.
How to read a producer page
Each page states who made the facts public: the producer itself, its owner group, or a trade body such as the Union des Maisons de Champagne. Dates that a producer gives about its own past are marked as its own account.
On a Champagne label, NM marks a négociant manipulant, a house that may buy grapes or wine; CM a cooperative that makes wine from its members' grapes; RM a récoltant manipulant that makes wine only from its own harvest.1,2 The code describes the business model, not the quality of the wine. See also grower champagne and the history of the Champagne houses.
