Brice
House · Bouzy · founded 1994
Brice is a family Champagne house in Bouzy; the Union des Maisons de Champagne gives 1994 as its founding year, when Jean-Paul Brice became a négociant.1,2
Family and house
The Brice family traces its roots in Bouzy to 1684, the date of the oldest parish registers of the village; the house places this in the period when, in its words, the first bottles of champagne were made.2 According to the house, Simon Fétizon built the family house in 1764.2 In 1945 René Brice took over the estate, completed replanting after phylloxera, enlarged the cellars and released the first Champagne Brice cuvées.2 Jean-Paul Brice returned in 1966, and in 1994 he became a négociant and a member of the Union des Maisons de Champagne, buying grapes to add to the family vines.2 The house names Remi and Jean-René Brice as the twelfth generation and states 100,000 bottles a year, more than 30% exported.2
