Jacquesson
House · Dizy · founded 1798
Jacquesson is a Champagne house in Dizy, founded in Châlons-sur-Marne in 1798 and now part of the Artémis Domaines group.1,2
History
According to the house, Claude and Memmie Jacquesson founded it in Châlons-sur-Marne in 1798.1 The house mentions that Jacquesson was said to be Napoleon I's favourite champagne and presents this as a rumour, not as a documented fact.1 It credits Adolphe Jacquesson with patenting the muselet, the wire cage that holds the cork, in 1844.1 The de Tassigny family acquired the house in 1924, and in 1974 the Chiquet family took it over and moved it to Dizy.1
Vineyard
The Union des Maisons de Champagne gives 33 ha in 3 villages.2 The house's own page gives 36 ha of grand and premier cru vines and names Avize, Aÿ, Dizy, Oiry, Champillon and Hautvillers; it says the vines have been certified organic since 2010.1 The two sources give different figures.
Ownership and wines
The UMC lists the house in the Artémis Domaines group and lists no brands.2 The house names Cuvée n°700 among its wines.1 See the history of champagne technique.
