Ca' del Bosco
Winery · Erbusco · since 1964
Ca' del Bosco is a Franciacorta estate in Erbusco, begun when Annamaria Clementi Zanella bought a small hillside house there in 1964.1 Its first three sparkling wines came from the 1976 harvest, and since 1994 the estate has been part of the Santa Margherita group of the Marzotto family.1
History
The estate's timeline begins in 1964, when Annamaria Clementi Zanella, mother of the current president Maurizio Zanella, bought a small house on a hill in Erbusco with two hectares of land among oak and chestnut woods.1 The farm manager Antonio Gandossi planted the first vineyards in 1968, and the first wine, a Pinot di Franciacorta Bianco, followed in 1972.1
First sparkling wines
The 1976 harvest gave the first three sparkling wines, a Brut, a Dosage Zéro and a Rosé, released in December 1978.1 In 1979 Maurizio Zanella brought in the chef de cave André Dubois.1 In 1985 an underground dome was dug 17 m deep, with the cellars branching from it.1 In 1990 the house's Crémant became a vintage wine and was renamed Satèn; the term is now a Franciacorta style (Satèn).1
Ownership and farming
In 1994 Ca' del Bosco joined the Santa Margherita group of the Marzotto family; the estate says it kept its identity and autonomy, with Zanella still involved.1 Its viticulture has been certified organic since 2014.2 Annamaria Clementi Zanella died in 2014; since 1989 the house's vintage Franciacorta has carried her name as Cuvée Annamaria Clementi.1
The estate is in Franciacorta, where sparkling wine is made by the traditional method.3 Nearby is Guido Berlucchi.
