Gardet
House · Chigny-les-Roses · founded 1895
Gardet is a family-owned, independent Champagne house in Chigny-les-Roses, founded by Charles Gardet in Épernay in 1895.1,2 The Union des Maisons de Champagne gives 5 ha of own vines.3
History
According to the house, Charles Gardet founded it in Épernay in 1895 and died in 1913.1 In the 1930s Anna Madeleine, mother of Georges Gardet, bought the premises of Champagne De Tassigny in Chigny-les-Roses, where the house is based today.1,3 After Georges Gardet died in 1952, his widow ran the house with their five children.1
The house says it reached one million bottles in 1999 and enlarged its cellar in 2004.1 Christophe Prieux has run it since 2007; his family had made champagne before in the neighbouring village of Ludes, at Ployez-Jacquemart.1
Vineyards and wines
The UMC profile gives 5 ha of own vines and no group.3 The house describes Chigny-les-Roses as a premier cru village and says its Charles Gardet Rosé de Saignée comes only from premier cru vines there.2,1 The UMC lists twelve wines, among them Brut Tradition, Brut Blanc de Noirs 1er Cru, Dosage Zéro, Selected Réserve Perpétuelle and the Prestige Charles Gardet range.3 See saignée and premier cru.
