House · Épernay · founded 1834
Boizel is a Champagne house in Épernay founded in 1834 by Auguste Boizel and Julie Martin.1,2 The Union des Maisons de Champagne lists it in the Lanson-BCC group.2
History
According to the house, Auguste Boizel and Julie Martin, a newly married couple from the Côte des Blancs, founded the business in Épernay in 1834 as Boizel-Martin.1 The house writes that exports to England began in 1851 and that Édouard Boizel, who took over in 1872 with his wife Adèle, launched the first Brut wines of the house.1 Jules and Louise Boizel made its first blanc de blancs in 1929, and René Boizel launched the prestige cuvée Joyau de France with the 1961 vintage.1
In 1972 Évelyne Roques-Boizel and her husband Christophe took over.1 The house dates its first Cuvée Sous Bois, made in old casks, to 1990, and its first zero dosage wine, Ultime Zéro, to 2008.1 Florent and Lionel Roques-Boizel, the sixth generation, joined in 2010; in 2018 the house opened new premises on avenue de Champagne with a cask cellar and the Atelier 1834 visitor space.1
