Henriot

House · Reims · founded 1808

Henriot is a Champagne house in Reims, founded in 1808 by Apolline Henriot, the widow of Nicolas Henriot.1 The Union des Maisons de Champagne lists it under the TEVC group, with 30 ha of vines in 5 villages.2

History

The house says the Henriot family came to Champagne from Lorraine in 1640 and built a cloth business in Reims, later adding wine.1 In 1808 Apolline Henriot, widow of Nicolas Henriot, founded her own house after 14 years in the cloth and wine trade with her husband. Her vineyards lay in Verzy, Verzenay and Mailly-Champagne.1

In 1880 Paul Henriot married Marie Marguet, and three Chardonnay crus of the Côte des Blancs joined the vineyard: Avize, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Chouilly.1 From 1920 the family studied its soils with soil pits, and from 1970 Joseph Henriot, the seventh generation, enlarged the stock of reserve wines.1 Since 2020 cellar master Alice Tétienne has led a vineyard research project called Alliance Terroirs.1
