Collery
House · Aÿ-Champagne · founded 1893
Collery is a Champagne house in Aÿ, whose brand Jules-Anatole Collery created in 1893.1 The Union des Maisons de Champagne lists it in the Nicolas Gueusquin group.2
History
According to the house, Jules-Anatole Collery created the brand in 1893 and was one of the first growers to make and sell champagne in his own bottles, at a time when growers usually sold their grapes.1 The house says he won his first gold medal in Paris in 1904.1
In the next generations, Pierre Collery ran the vineyards and the cellar and Geneviève Collery the trade. Jean Collery became president of the Montagne de Reims regional natural park in 1974; the house credits him with Collery's rosé made by maceration (see maceration). Alain Collery opened a champagne museum in Aÿ in the early 1970s.1 The house says the brand is now carried on with the encouragement of the Collery family.1
Group and wines
The UMC lists Collery in the Nicolas Gueusquin group. The 13 ha it reports is a consolidated figure for that group, not Collery's own area.2 All wines in the profile are labelled Grand Cru: NV Brut, NV Extra Brut, NV Rosé Brut, Blanc de Blancs Brut, Blanc de Noirs Brut and EmpyreumatiC 2014 Brut.2 The house says it is known for Pinot Noir from grand cru villages.1 See grand cru.
