History

According to the house, Salon is the work of one man, Eugène-Aimé Salon, born on 7 October 1867 in Pocancy, who died in 1943.1 Its first vintage is 1905. The house says Maison Salon was created in 1920; the Union des Maisons de Champagne gives 1921.1,3 The house calls Aimé Salon a forerunner of blanc de blancs.1

One cru, one variety, one year

According to the house, each Salon comes from a single vintage, a single cru, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, and a single variety, Chardonnay; in the 20th century it released 37 vintages.1 See also single-vineyard champagne for related label terms.

Ownership

Bernard de Nonancourt bought Salon in 1988, the year he brought Delamotte into the Laurent-Perrier group; since 1997 Didier Depond has managed both houses.2 Salon's site calls Delamotte its sister house.1 The UMC lists Salon in the Laurent-Perrier group, gives 5 vineyard villages and does not publish an area.3 See Laurent-Perrier.
