RM (récoltant manipulant)

French · grower-producer

RM (récoltant manipulant) is the label code for a grower who makes and sells Champagne only from its own harvest, on its own premises.1,2

Context

The Union des Maisons de Champagne counts more than 2,000 RM, about one third of operators.2 The trade phrase grower Champagne is not defined in the AOC specification or the DGCCRF label guide; RM is the legal category closest to it.3,1 A grower who has a cooperative make the wine uses RC instead.

Where the code appears

The two letters precede the digits of the Comité Champagne registration number printed on every Champagne label.2,3 The other codes are listed on Champagne label codes.
