matricule
French · registration number
The matricule is the Comité Champagne registration number on the label: digits preceded by two letters that give the producer category (NM, RM and others).1,2
The AOC specification requires labels to carry the identifiers set by the Comité Champagne, but does not list the codes itself.2 The main codes are NM, RM, RC, CM, SR, ND and MA.1 UMC counts about 200 NM, more than 2,000 RM and about 3,000 RC.1 The number sits next to the name of the élaborateur. The code MA marks a buyer's own brand: finished bottles sold under the brand of a retailer or restaurant.3,1 See label codes and grower Champagne.
