MA (marque d'acheteur)

French · buyer's own brand

MA (marque d'acheteur) is the label code for a buyer's own brand: finished bottles of Champagne sold under the brand of a retailer, restaurant or other client.1,2

Context

The code is also read as marque auxiliaire or marque autorisée.1,2,3 The brand on the front label belongs to the buyer, not to the producer that made the wine. The producer's name or code appears after "élaboré par" (élaborateur).2,4

Where the code appears

The two letters precede the digits of the Comité Champagne registration number printed on every Champagne label.2,4 The other codes are listed on Champagne label codes.

For scale, UMC counts more than 2,000 RM, about 3,000 RC and more than 100 cooperatives.2
