élaborateur

French · producer

The élaborateur is the producer responsible for making the Champagne; its name or code follows 'élaboré par' on the label.1,2

The élaborateur is identified together with its professional category, shown as a two-letter code in the registration number.1 The codes distinguish, for example, a négociant manipulant that buys grapes, musts or wines, a récoltant manipulant that makes wine only from its own harvest, and a buyer's own brand.3,1 The identifiers are set by the Comité Champagne.2 Other compulsory label items include Produit de France.4 UMC counts at least 200 NM and more than 2,000 RM in Champagne.1 See label codes.
