récoltant
French · grower
Récoltant means grower: in Champagne label codes it marks a business that harvests its own grapes, as in RM, RC and SR.1
Three codes
- RM, récoltant manipulant: makes and sells Champagne only from its own harvest.1,2
- RC, récoltant coopérateur: delivers grapes to a cooperative and sells the wine under its own label.1,2
- SR, société de récoltants: growers, often one family, selling under a shared label.2
The opposite term is négociant, a merchant that buys grapes, wine or bottles.1 See label codes.
The AOC Champagne specification requires the registration identifiers set by the Comité Champagne on every label, but does not list the codes itself.3
