Crémant du Jura
AOC since 1995 · traditional method
Crémant du Jura is the AOC for white and rosé traditional-method sparkling wine from the Jura department, recognised in 1995.1 White cuvées need at least 70% Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Trousseau, and every wine spends at least 9 months on the lees.1
Grapes and blends
Two white varieties are allowed, Chardonnay and Savagnin, and four black or grey ones: Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Poulsard (also spelled Ploussard) and Trousseau.1
| Wine | Blend rule |
|---|---|
| White | Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Trousseau at least 70% of the cuvée |
| Rosé | Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Poulsard and Trousseau at least 50% of the cuvée |
The rules come from the cahier des charges.1 In practice, Savagnin, Pinot Gris and Poulsard together may make up no more than 30% of a white cuvée.
Ageing, yield, pressure
Crémant du Jura is made by the traditional method. The bottles stay at least 9 months on the lees, and the wine is released no earlier than 12 months after tirage.1 The base yield is 78 or 74 hl/ha depending on row spacing, with a ceiling (rendement butoir) of 90 or 80 hl/ha.1 After disgorgement the overpressure must be at least 3.5 atmospheres at 20 °C, a little lower than the 4 atmospheres required in Alsace.1,2
The 2026 draft amendment
The figures on this page come from the draft amendment of the cahier des charges published in June 2026 for the national opposition procedure.1 According to this draft, VIFA varieties (varieties of interest for adaptation) would be added, among them Pinot Blanc, Aligoté, Chenin, Voltis, Gamay and Meunier.1 Until the text is adopted, treat these additions as proposed, not in force. The core rules on ageing and blends match those of the other French Crémants.
