Aligoté

VIVC 312 · white

Aligoté is a white-berried French grape whose marker-confirmed parents, per VIVC, are Heunisch Weiss (Gouais Blanc) and Pinot, the same pair as for Chardonnay.1,2 It is a listed white variety of Crémant de Bourgogne.3

Identity and pedigree

VIVC lists Aligoté under number 312, with white berries and France as the country of origin.1 Its 43 synonyms include Aligote Blanc, Blanc de Troyes, Bourgogne-Aligote and Beaunois.1 Beaunois also appears among the synonyms of Chardonnay.2

The pedigree confirmed by markers is Heunisch Weiss × Pinot.1 Bowers et al. (1999) named Aligoté, with Chardonnay, Gamay and Melon, among the grapes consistent with descent from Pinot × Gouais Blanc.4

VIVC gives the same parents for Gamay, so Aligoté, Chardonnay and Gamay share one parental pair in the catalogue.5,2

Use in sparkling wine

Aligoté is a listed white variety of Crémant de Bourgogne.3 The June 2026 draft for Crémant du Jura lists it as a white variety of interest for adaptation.6

Both Crémant rules are quoted from INAO draft amendments published for national opposition.
