Status in Champagne
The Champagne cahier des charges admits Voltis as a "variété d'intérêt à fin d'adaptation" (VIFA). Growers may plant it under a convention that follows the framework convention approved on 2 June 2021.1 The limits are:
- at most 5% of a holding's plantings, with the principal varieties at least 95%;1
- at most 10% of a blend, with the principal varieties at least 90%;1,2
- no wine from Voltis alone.1,2
Voltis plantings less than 20 metres from certain sites (buffer zones near inhabited areas) are not counted in the 5% limit.1,2 The June 2026 draft amendment of the Champagne rules, not yet final, lists Voltis together with Serelis and Orellis as varieties of interest for adaptation.4
Other appellations (drafts)
The June 2026 draft for Crémant du Jura lists Voltis as a white VIFA (at most 5% of plantings, 20% for holdings under 3 ha).3 The June 2025 draft for Crémant d'Alsace lists it as a VIFA for white wines (at most 5% of plantings and 10% of the blend).5
