Riesling is a white variety from Germany, listed in VIVC as Riesling Weiss (number 10077).1 In sparkling wine it is one of the six varieties allowed for white Crémant d'Alsace.2

Identity and pedigree

The Vitis International Variety Catalogue (VIVC) lists Riesling under number 10077, prime name RIESLING WEISS, with white berries and Germany as country of origin.1 Its pedigree confirmed by DNA markers names one parent, Heunisch Weiss; the other is unknown.1 VIVC records 167 synonyms, among them Gelber Riesling, Edelriesling and Feher Rajnai Rizling.1

Welschriesling is a different variety with its own VIVC number, despite the name.3
