Riserva

Italian · reserve

In Franciacorta, Riserva is a wine with at least 60 months on lees.1

Riserva and Millesimato are sub-categories within Franciacorta's three types, and both require at least 85% wine of the stated vintage.2,3 The 60 months compare with 30 for Millesimato.1 The term is defined separately by each Italian disciplinare: in Trento DOC, Riserva means 36 months with a mandatory vintage.4 The Spanish counterpart in Cava is Reserva, at least 18 months.5 The Franciacorta ladder runs: Satèn 24 months, Millesimato 30, Riserva 60.1 See Franciacorta and ageing minimums.
