Millesimato

Italian · vintage

Millesimato is Italian for vintage; Franciacorta Millesimato needs at least 85% wine of the stated year and at least 30 months on lees.1

The 85% share follows the EU vintage rule.2 In Franciacorta, Millesimato and Riserva are sub-categories of the three wine types; the base minimum is 24 months on lees for Satèn, rising to 30 for Millesimato.3,1 The word is used elsewhere too: Prosecco DOC Rosé must carry 'Millesimato' and the vintage.4,5 Champagne is stricter: a vintage Champagne needs 100% of grapes from the stated year.6 In Trento DOC, vintage-dated wines need 24 months.7 See vintage and Franciacorta.
