Paraje Calificado is the top Cava category: a single-vintage wine from a specific qualified site, from vines at least 10 years old, hand-harvested, at most 8,000 kg/ha, with at least 36 months on lees.1,2

It sits at the top of Cava de Guarda Superior, above Gran Reserva.3 The grapes enter the winery whole after hand harvest, and pressing is limited to 0.6 hl of must per 100 kg, against 1 hl per 150 kg for other Cava.4 The category is small: 31,000 bottles in 2025, or 0.02% of sales.5 Its location wording was amended by a resolution of 9 January 2026.6,7 Related ideas: single-vineyard and vintage.
