ISO tasting glass
English · standard tasting glass
The ISO tasting glass is a small tulip-shaped glass on a short stem, used mainly for professional tastings.1
Context
Its shape follows the tulip glass, which UMC regards as the standard for Champagne: an egg-shaped bowl narrowing at the top.1 UMC contrasts both with the coupe, whose wide bowl lets the bouquet escape, and the flute, which is fragile.1
For what is observed in the glass, see effervescence, mousse and autolytic notes. Choosing a glass at home: glasses.
Bubbles form at nucleation sites, micro-cavities in the glass or particles such as dust or fibres; without them there is no effervescence.2
