Grande Marque

French · major brand

Grande Marque is the term the Union des Maisons de Champagne (UMC) uses for the major Champagne houses.1,2

Context

The research behind this library found the term in UMC texts on tasting and blending; it did not find a legal definition, so no list of houses is given here. A Champagne house (maison) is usually registered as an NM.3 In UMC's description of blending, the chef de cave builds each cuvée to match the house style.2

The AOC Champagne specification requires the registration identifiers set by the Comité Champagne on every label, but does not list the codes itself.4
