consorzio di tutela
Italian · protection consortium
A consorzio di tutela is an Italian producers' protection consortium for a denomination, for example the Consorzio Tutela Lambrusco.1
Consortia are often older than the current denominations. The Consorzio per la Tutela dell'Asti, for example, was established on 17 December 1932.2 They also publish history and figures: the Asti consortium dates Martinotti's first rapid sparkling system in large autoclaves to 1898.2 Consortia work within the rules of the disciplinare of their DOC or DOCG. Spanish DOs have a comparable body, the Consejo Regulador; Champagne has the Comité Champagne. See Italy and Lambrusco di Sorbara.
