amabile

Italian · semi-sweet

Amabile is Italian for "semi-sweet"; it is the upper sweetness limit for Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Frizzante.1

Where it is used

Under the Conegliano Valdobbiadene disciplinare, the frizzante (semi-sparkling) type may range from secco to amabile.1 The research reviewed here gives no gram-per-litre figure for amabile, so this page does not state one.

For the EU sweetness bands of sparkling wine in Italian, see abboccato (32-50 g/L) and dolce (over 50 g/L).2 More on the area: Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco.

Where the sugar comes from

After disgorgement the wine receives the liqueur d'expédition, cane sugar dissolved in wine; UMC gives 0 to 5-6 cl per bottle.3,4 Its amount decides which sweetness term the label may carry.
