aerated semi-sparkling wine
English · EU wine category 9
In EU law, aerated semi-sparkling wine (category 9) has 1 to 2.5 bar of pressure from wholly or partly added CO2, actual alcohol of at least 7% vol and total alcohol of at least 9% vol.1
It mirrors semi-sparkling wine in pressure and alcohol, but the gas is not only the wine's own. Like category 8, it is sold in containers of 60 litres or less.2 The label must state the addition of carbon dioxide in the same type and size as the category, unless the language itself makes it clear.3 German law speaks of 'Perlwein mit zugesetzter Kohlensäure', Perlwein with added CO2.4 The higher-pressure version is aerated sparkling wine. Process: carbonation. All categories: EU categories.
