The long view

The D.O. Cava council's historical table starts with 200,000 bottles in 1900, then 2.4 million in 1930, 10.5 million in 1960, 82 million in 1980 and 139.7 million in 1990.4 The yearly series in the chart begins in 2000, with 196.8 million bottles.4

2000 to 2019

Volume passed 200 million in 2001 and stayed between 239 and 253 million from 2010 to 2019.4 The highest figure in the series is 252.5 million bottles in 2017.4 Export grew from 97.0 million bottles in 2000 to 165.0 million in 2019, about two thirds of the total.4 Up to 2020 the council gives totals as production and computes the domestic market as total minus export.4,6
