Habillage

French · bottle dressing

Habillage is the dressing of the bottle: foil cap, front label and back label.1

The foil over the cork and neck is the coiffe.2 A neck band label, the collerette, may be applied during packaging.2 The back label, contre-étiquette, often carries grape varieties, the disgorgement date and other optional information.3

Dressing comes last, after corking and the muselet. What the label must say is covered in EU labelling and label codes. Under the coiffe, the Champagne cork must bear the appellation name.4
