Oltrepò Pavese Metodo Classico

Oltrepò Pavese Metodo Classico is a Lombardy DOCG in the province of Pavia for bottle-fermented sparkling wine with at least 70% Pinot Noir, or 85% for the Pinot nero types.1 Minimum time on lees is 15 months, 24 for vintage wines.1

Status

The Oltrepò Pavese DOC was approved in 1970, and the Metodo Classico DOCG in 2007.1

This page follows the disciplinare as last modified by ministerial decree of 7 March 2014, read from a reproduction by the Italian Sommelier Association. Later amendments may exist.

Zone

The zone covers 27 whole and 15 partial municipalities in the Oltrepò Pavese area of the province of Pavia.1

Types and grapes

The disciplinare defines four types.1

The term "Cremant" may be used for the rosé, and "millesimato" for wines with a vintage.1 The name "Cruasé", used by the consortium for rosé, does not appear in the disciplinare text consulted and is not covered here.

Method and ageing

Only traditional bottle refermentation is allowed.1 See traditional method. Ageing is counted from bottling, which may not take place before 1 January following the harvest.1

Dosage
