Rosé d'assemblage
French · blended rosé
Rosé d'assemblage is rosé obtained by blending white and red wines before tirage; it is permitted in Champagne.1
It is a form of assemblage: the colour comes from red wine added to the blend, not from skin contact as in saignée or maceration.1 The blend must be made before tirage, that is before the second fermentation in bottle.1
The fourth route in the specification is direct pressing.1 In Champagne tirage may start only from 1 January after the harvest.1 The blend is decided by the chef de cave, who tastes the base wines.2 See rosé and assemblage.
