natural alcoholic strength
English · natural alcoholic strength
Natural alcoholic strength is the total alcoholic strength of a product before any enrichment.1
Where it is used
Some specifications set a minimum for it. For Cartizze, the top sub-zone of Conegliano Valdobbiadene, the minimum natural alcoholic strength is 11.5% vol.2
It is built from the same parts as the total alcoholic strength: actual plus potential strength.1 See EU categories.
In EU categories
The EU sets minimum total alcoholic strength for the cuvée: 8.5% vol for sparkling wine and 9% vol for quality sparkling wine.3
Semi-sparkling wine needs an actual alcoholic strength of at least 7% vol.3
