Miroir
French · mirror (cork disc)
The miroir is the natural cork disc, or discs, at the base of a Champagne cork, in contact with the wine.1
Above the miroir sits the manche, the body of agglomerated cork granules.1 Together they form the bouchon, 31 mm in diameter and compressed to about half that when inserted.1
The cork goes in after dégorgement and dosage, and the muselet holds it in place.1 The cork is at most 48 mm long and compressed to about 17 mm in the neck.1 The Champagne specification requires the cork to bear the appellation name.2 See corking and cork.
