Identity in VIVC
VIVC lists Mauzac Blanc under number 7522, with white berries and France as the country of origin.1 It records 40 synonyms, among them Blanquette, Blanquette de Limoux, Blanc Lafitte, Gaillac, Manzac and Mausac.1 The passport gives no pedigree.
The name Blanquette is not unique to Mauzac: VIVC also lists it as a synonym of Clairette.2
VIVC is maintained by JKI Geilweilerhof and identifies each variety by a prime name and a variety number.1 A shared local name such as Blanquette therefore does not identify a variety on its own.
Use in sparkling wine
Two synonyms point to sparkling-wine areas: Blanquette de Limoux and Gaillac.1 The cahiers des charges of Blanquette de Limoux, Crémant de Limoux and Gaillac méthode ancestrale were not checked for this page, so no variety rule is quoted here.
