Clairette

VIVC 2695 (Clairette Blanche) · white

Clairette is a white-berried French grape, listed in VIVC as Clairette Blanche under number 2695.1

Identity in VIVC

VIVC lists Clairette Blanche under number 2695, with white berries and France as the country of origin.1 Its 81 synonyms include Clairette, Blanquette, Clairette de Limoux and Blanquette du Midi.1 The passport gives no pedigree.

The synonym Blanquette is shared with Mauzac, which VIVC also lists as Blanquette and Blanquette de Limoux.2 A local name on a label therefore does not by itself identify the variety.

VIVC is maintained by JKI Geilweilerhof and identifies each variety by a prime name and a variety number.1 The word blanche in the prime name marks the berry colour; Clairette and Blanquette du Midi are listed only as synonyms.1

Use in sparkling wine

The variety shares its name with Clairette de Die. The texts of that appellation and of Crémant de Die were not checked for this page, so no variety rule is quoted here.
