Vaudemanges

Premier Cru commune · Champagne AOC

Vaudemanges is one of the 42 communes of the Champagne AOC whose wines may carry the "premier cru" mention, but not "grand cru".1,2 It lies in the Marne department.3

What the mention means

The Champagne specification names the premier cru communes one by one. Wine from grapes harvested on the territory of Vaudemanges may add "premier cru" to the appellation name, and the commune name may appear on the label together with "Premier Cru".1 The mention is not a separate appellation: the same rules apply as in the rest of the area, including at least 12 months on the lees before disgorgement, 15 months from tirage before release and 36 months for vintage wines.2

Name and location

The specification spells the name "Vaudemanges"; the official commune register uses "Vaudemange" (INSEE code 51599).1,3
