Bisseuil
Premier Cru commune · Champagne AOC
Bisseuil is one of the 42 communes of the Champagne AOC whose wines may carry the "premier cru" mention, but not "grand cru".1,2 It lies in the Marne department.3
What the mention means
The Champagne specification names the premier cru communes one by one. Wine from grapes harvested on the territory of Bisseuil may add "premier cru" to the appellation name, and the commune name may appear on the label together with "Premier Cru".1 The mention is not a separate appellation: the same rules apply as in the rest of the area, including at least 12 months on the lees before disgorgement, 15 months from tirage before release and 36 months for vintage wines.2
Name and location
In the official commune register Bisseuil is now a commune déléguée (delegated commune) of Aÿ-Champagne, INSEE code 51030.4 The specification still names Bisseuil in the premier cru list.1
The full list of 42 communes is on the Champagne Premier Cru page.
