Latin · bottle format

The magnum is a Champagne bottle of 1.5 L, equal to two standard bottles.1

In the range

On the Comité Champagne list of formats it comes between the bouteille (75 cl) and the jéroboam (3 L).1 Champagne in this format must be sold in the bottle in which the prise de mousse took place (same-bottle rule).2 It is the largest format that must stay in the bottle of its prise de mousse. UMC advises pouring a magnum with the thumb in the punt.3
